well said, the right gear is tha top priority... but i learnt a valuable lesson a few months back. Never ever use damaged equipment no matter how safe you think it is.
i was under-taken by some fool one night and pushed off the road at about 100k's, a few trees lated saw the end of my 98 cbr250rr and almost mine... i made the mistake of using a second hand helmet with a faulty viser clip, the visor ripped off and left me victim to countless branches rocketing towards my face.
Luck was on my side though, with everything else still intact the worst injury was a friction burn on my arm, or maby my pride.
