I teach auto body! I would recomend abrading the surface with 400 and water, if you are spraying plastic you may want to use a plastic primer, or you could check with any reputable autobody paint jobber. any finish sanding should be done with a no courser than 400 but finer is better. once the surface is prepped you will want to seal the the surface with a good sealer. now you need to decide what you are going to do, if you will be spraying a ground coat(metallic) now you will do that, next if you will be spraying and graphics or flames that will be applied next, then the wholle project needs to be cleared, I would recommend a high end urethane clear, no matter wether you use waterbourne or solvent based custom finishes. You can also get a lot of info on-line at www.bearair.com and www.autoaircolors.com good luck!!!
