The lawyers make them do it. The fact is that in a zero speed drop or a low speed dump, most bars will provide excellent protection. One drunk guy dumping his bike at 80 mph can cost a manufacturer a lot of legal fees and settlement money.
I put the MCE bars on my C50. I have not tested them, but they are very sturdy bars. I think they're a good idea on cruisers - just as sliders are a good idea on sportbikes.
