Handling fogging visor

Helmet fogI don’t know about you but for me, the mornings are certainly not warming up anymore. It’s not cold yet but there is more and more morning dew and one of the problems it creates for me and my fullface helmet is that the visor tends to fog up, especially at traffic lights where there is no wind to clear it up.

There are many commercial products to help alleviate the problem from liquid sprays to transparent films. Although it would be great to test those, I have found a very cheap solution to this common problem. Ok, I’m not claiming to have come up with this in no way. All I’m saying it that I recently started to do this.

I apply a drop or two of dishsoap, smear it good accross the inner side of the visor and buff it out with a soft tissue. I’ve heard that plain tooth paste work well too but I haven’t personnally tested that. I’ve been riding for a week now since my first application of dishsoap and my visor was still fog-free this morning. I love this little trick because it means I do not have to put on the breath guard which although very effective too is a little more annoying to me.

Thanks Louis…This is exactly what I need. I leave my house just before the sun comes up each morning. It’s been tough keeping the shield clear. It had some “stuff” on it when purchased & I have been very careful to clean it lightly with water only to attempt and preserve the “stuff” as long as I could.
But it’s long gone now & I’ve been wondering which product to use…there are so many to choose from.
Your alternative is certainly worth testing…thanks for the post.

Strike the toothpaste. Most (if not all) tooth paste has some abrasive properties and that isn’t good for the shield.

It’s okay that you didn’t post my comment–the good dr. made the point.

This is a perfect solution and I can’t believe I didn’t think to try it on my visor. I use this trick on my bathroom mirrors so I dont’ have to wait for them to unfog after a hot shower.
